About FacultyONLINE

FacultyONLINE is designed for academics to interact with books in a whole new way. On a daily basis you interact with books; be they textbooks, professional books, or even fiction and nonfiction titles. FacultyONLINE provides you a way to save these interactions in a virtual library as well as see how your colleagues across the globe interact with books.

The geneses of this site grew out of a desire to provide faculty members a secure, efficient, advertisement free, environment to find textbooks that were applicable for course use. Before FacultyONLINE professors would have to browse between 4 to 6 academic publisher web sites to make sure they reviewed all their options, or use an online book retailer that was designed more for a consumer purchasing a book for pleasure reading. The results were inevitably suboptimal and extremely time consuming.

The benefits to using FacultyONLINE are simple. It’s the one site that brings together relevant title information, colleague reviews and the ability to request examination copies from all relevant higher education publishers, saving you time and energy when looking for the newest and more applicable title for your next course.

As our membership grew, our services grew. Today we offer a host of features that make the site a meaningful place to visit and use on a continuous basis. A few of the most recent features include:
  • My Library
The My Library section of the site is your personal homepage. It’s where you as a professor or researcher are able to catalog your books, wrapping rich metadata around each title, and adding reviews, course syllabi or even course web site information. The value is immediate. Finally a place where you can create your virtual library and keep track of all the titles that are meaningful to you. Click Here to See an Example of a My Library Page.
  • FacultyFinder
At your discretion, you can allow other members to view your library. By using the FacultyFinder search, members are able to find titles that interest them by browsing your public library page. Absolutely no contact or personal information is ever shared. Your privacy is assured! However what this search provides is a great way to find books, be that textbooks or just subject specific reading, and get a sense of the popularity of these titles amongst your colleagues. In addition, for textbooks specifically, it provides you access into a rich collection of syllabi so you can really see how a course you may be teaching is being taught at another school. • Advanced Title Search
We understand that the best way to get meaningful results on the internet is to provide searching capabilities that allow you to slice directly down to the subject or keywords you want. Your title search within FacultyONLINE can be as loose or as direct as you want. However with exclusive fields such as Price, Copyright, Publication Status, and Format, we are confident that the results you return will be significant and relevant. • Academic Resource Center
Finding relevant resources to bolster course material or simply direct your students to is never easy. Our Academic Resource Center has been designed to not only give you a listing of applicable resources, but also the ability to post new resources and share them with the community at large. Additionally, we have wrapped the existing resources and any newly submitted resources around rich metadata, such as a discipline name or a course name, allowing you to search through these resources to find ones relevant to your needs. • Book-in-use and Syllabi Library
One of the most unique features of FacultyONLINE is the ability to see what other schools are using a specific textbook or academic material. In addition to being able to browse a list of schools you are also able to view relevant course sites and syllabi. This a great tool for evaluating your next adopted title and see how your syllabi stacks up against similar schools. Click Here to See an Example of the Book-in-Use Page.
  • Examination Copy
As previously mentioned FacultyONLINE was initially designed to deliver relevant textbook information quickly and easily, as well as allow professors the ability to request examination copies without jumping from publisher to publisher. We still offer this great feature, but as books move into digital format so to does our sampling medium. Today we to have expanded our mediums and while you can still request printed examination copies that come directly from the publisher, we are also happy to offer you electronic copies that are instantly sent to your email.
  • Book Information
While the heart of FacultyONLINE is a site dedicated to allowing faculty members to find textbooks and other “academic” material, we have not limited our catalog. Powered by Bowker’s Books-in-Print®, FacultyONLINE will allow you to browse and add books to your library from all genres of the publishing industry, including fiction, non-fiction, academic, or strictly professional.
With a staggering number of textbooks and relevant academic materials being created every year, FacultyONLINE is a simple tool to keep everything organized. Additionally we hope you will see FacultyONLINE as a place for you, as a professor, a researcher, or faculty member, to be able to tell the community what’s important to you and share how you are educating your students.

Enjoy FacultyONLINE and please let us know what you think.
